Avent, Comotomo, and Tommee Tippee are the most popular brands when it comes to baby bottles and nipples. But how easy are they to clean? Washing baby bottles and nipples by hand can take time. Sometimes you may not notice that there’s still formula stuck around the nipples or bottles and they’ll have to be washed a second time.

To wash these baby feeding items quicker, you can use a dishwasher. But are Comotomo, Avent, and Tommee Tippee baby bottles and nipples dishwasher safe? That’s what I’ll be talking about in this article. My fiancée works in a pharmacy so we’ve been extra careful about keeping our baby products clean.

In this post, I will be going through each product with you so you can see whether these brands make dishwasher safe baby nipples and bottles. What’s more, I’ll give you tips on how to sterilize your bottles and nipples and ways you can clean them without a dishwasher.

Are All Baby Bottles and Nipples Dishwasher Safe?

Using a dishwasher to clean your baby’s bottles and nipples is a great way to sterilize them. The dishwasher’s hottest washing setting will kill all germs and bacteria found in and around the bottles and nipples.

However, not all baby bottles with nipples are dishwasher safe. If you buy lower grade products the plastic of the bottles can crack and the nipples will melt. That’s why it’s important to pick higher-grade baby bottles with nipples that are durable.

If you buy baby bottles and nipples that are dishwasher safe you won’t have to sterilize them with another machine or wash your baby bottles by hand. This will save you a lot of time and money.

Are Avent Baby Bottles and Nipples Dishwasher Safe?

You’ll be happy to know that Avent baby bottles and nipples are dishwasher safe. The dishwasher won’t cause any wear to the Avent bottles or nipples. Furthermore, the heat won’t release any chemicals in the bottles or nipples that can cause harm to your baby.

Avent baby bottles have different parts that allow you to attach the nipple to the bottle. It’s important to dismantle all the parts of your Avent bottle so that every piece can get washed thoroughly in your dishwasher.

The Avent brand makes plenty of dishwasher-safe items such as breast milk storage containers. So if you have a baby that’s still breastfeeding you can ensure that the feeding containers are always sterilized and clean before every use.

Are Comotomo Baby Bottles and Nipples Dishwasher Safe?

Comotomo makes high-end baby products that are free from chemicals and BPA plastic. You’ll also be happy to know that Comotomo baby bottles and nipples are dishwasher safe.

However, it’s advised that you place your Comotomo baby bottles and nipples on the top rack of your dishwasher. This is to keep them away from the heating coils inside your dishwasher machine.

Sometimes baby formula can get stuck between the cap and the bottle. Similar to Avent bottles you may have to dismantle all the parts of your Comotomo bottles so that they can get cleaned thoroughly.

Although Comotomo baby bottles with nipples are safe to use and they’re easy to clean, many wonder if the bottles expire. The manufacturers recommend that you replace your Comotomo bottles every 6 months and the nipples should be replaced every 3 months.

Are Tommee Tippee Baby Bottles and Nipples Dishwasher Safe?

Tommee Tippee is another baby brand that makes dishwasher-safe bottles and nipples. However, you may want to wash your Tommee Tippee baby bottles and nipples separately from all your other dishes. This is because food from plates can stain the plastic of the nipples and bottles.

Tommee Tippee Natural Start Anti-Colic BPA Free Baby Bottles, 5oz, Newborn 0+ Months, Slow Flow Breast-Like Nipple, Designed for Seamless Transitions Between Bottle and Breast, Pack of 4

Place your Tommee Tippee baby bottles and nipples on the top rack of your dishwasher so that the items aren’t near the heating coils of the machine. Separate rings, caps, and nipples from the bottles before placing them into the dishwasher so all parts get washed thoroughly.

Not only are Tommee Tippee bottles with nipples easy to clean but they’re also the best brand for reflux. If you’re looking for the best feeding bottle that’s easy to maintain and doesn’t cause reflux then use the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Fiesta which I also refer to in best bottles for reflux article I wrote.

Why You Need to Sterilize Bottles and Nipples

According to the CDC (Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention), it’s important to keep your bottles and nipples sanitized especially for babies between 0-3 months. You must keep your baby feeding bottles sterilized if your baby has a weak immune system.

Older babies that are 4 months old and above won’t get sick if you sterilize your feeding items after every use. Bacteria and germs can get stuck in between caps and around the bottle’s nipple. So it’s important to kill these microorganisms so that they don’t cause harm to your baby.

If you simply don’t trust your dishwasher to get rid of all the germs and bacteria on your baby bottles and nipples then you can always use another product for the task. A popular product is the Philip Avent Microwave Steam Sterilizer that’s ideal for bottles, nipples, pacifiers, and cups.

Tips to Cleaning Bottles and Nipples

There are many ways you can clean your baby bottles and nipples to ensure that they’re safe for your baby to drink from.

What I usually did to get my baby’s bottles clean is I unscrewed all the caps and nipples from the bottle and placed them in a sink filled with hot water and soap. Then I took a cleaning brush such as the OXO Tot bottle brush to scrub the inside of all the bottles and nipples. This brush also comes with a stand that you can place your nipples in so they can dry faster. After I’ve washed all the bottles and nipples I rinsed them in warm water and placed them in a rack to dry.

If you’re concerned about the risk of using regular dishwashing soap to clean your baby’s bottles and nipples there are products on the market that are safe to use. Consider using Fizzwizz baby bottle and sippy cup cleaning tablets.

These cleaning tablets are USDA certified and it’s a 100% natural product made from plants. The tablets are paraben and SLS free so you can rest assured that they won’t leave chemical residues on your baby’s bottles.

You’re able to clean your baby’s feeding bottles with the tablets even when you’re not at home. They don’t create foam so there is no mess when cleaning your baby’s bottles on the go.

If you don’t want to clean your bottles manually, then you can use your dishwasher. But make sure you have a basket to place small parts in so that they don’t move around in the machine.

When I used my dishwasher to clean my baby’s bottles, I placed the nipple caps and other small parts inside an OXO Tot Dishwasher Basket. This basket has small holes all over so that water can get inside to clean any small items you’ve placed into it.

This basket is versatile because you can use it to dry small parts and nipples after washing them manually. The basket can be placed anywhere near your sink or in a sterilized environment so the small parts of your baby’s bottles can dry faster.

Final Thoughts

As you can see higher grade baby bottles with nipples are easier to maintain because they’re dishwasher safe. The heat from the dishwasher will remove all formula from the bottles without causing damage to the product. It’s important that old formula is cleaned out of the bottles and nipples before feeding your baby to prevent your child from getting ill.

Have you ever used Avent, Comotomo, or Tommee Tippee baby bottles with nipples to feed your baby? What was your experience using one of these products? Let me know your thoughts on each of the products listed in this article. I’m always happy to learn more from my readers.

Did you know by the way that sometimes baby bottles can smell like soap? But there are some ways to remove that ugly smell!
